Spring Road Trippin'

I cannot believe that it's actually been a year ~ to the day ~ since my mama and I set off on our big ol' road trip!

The Columbia River

The Gorge at George is that'a way.

We couldn't have asked for more beautiful weather!

Cloudy...with a chance of raspberry-filled oatmeal cookies...

...a traditional family road trip snack!

Another fine treat was the fact that my mama did the majority of the driving on our trip...so that I could snap photos along the way with my li'l old Panasonic point & shoot.

As you may recall, that's quite the feat when Cathy Grandma's driving!

July 2010 ~ Crescent Lake
The Olympic Peninsula ~ Washington State

.................................

If you've never visited the Northwest and are planning a trip...you're in for a real treat.

Especially, if you're aiming for a little peace & quiet.

I believe this was a monastery...

...somewhere in Idamo.
(I don't know if it was Idaho or Montana)

: )

What a gorgeous day!

Considering the events of this spring, I'm especially grateful that we had the opportunity to venture out on the Midwestern Junkin' & Family History Huntin' Tour!

Next stop:  Birthdayville!

..........................................................

So, would you like to know what my precious mother did to bide her time while I finished loading up the car for our trip?

MacGyverette that she is...she grabbed the nearest tool and started doing a little weeding.

Happy Monday, Everyone!

Fort Jeffbry

What percentage of your time, would you say...

My big brothers, Jeffy & Bryan ~ circa 1971

...did you dedicate to building forts when you were little?

Most likely, the left sidewall of the fort is my future dress-up trunk.  Oh, and I do believe those are saltwater sandals cast-off at Bryan's feet.  Who doesn't love the sight of a li'l kiddo in saltwater sandals?

.........................................

Urgent prayers are still needed for Bryan.  Thank you so much to everyone who has been lifting us up with your prayers and encouragement!

We really appreciate it!  God Bless You!

Thrifty Treasures: The Ones That Got Away....

Over the last year, I've found some wonderfully thrifty treasures whilst out junkin.'  That being said, a few pieces slipped through my fingers...but have stayed on my mind.

Like these...

Li'l stack o' Limoges ~ Estate Sale Find
I believe they wanted 4 dollars for each of them...or was it $4.00 for all of them?

hmmm....

{Please pardon the fuzzy photos}

I picked up boxes and boxes of art & craft supplies at that sale...but pondered over their charming assortment of dish collections for quite some time.

Isn't this one sweet?

The flowers are so whimsical...

...so happy!  I don't recall their name or brand, but I just love them!

........................................

Don't you?

I'd like to blame these fuzzy photos on the mothballs...the house had quite the collection of them, too!!!

...............................................................

Just around the corner was another estate sale where I stopped in my tracks when I saw this...

A beautiful vintage bed still bearing its original tag, which read...

"T.C.F.O. Co."

"Order date: 3-4-21"

It's 2 months younger than my Nebraskan grandma!

Grandpa & Grandma

............................................

Speaking of the Cornhusker State, whilst my mama was attending her 50th high school reunion luncheon last spring, my auntie and I happened upon quite the find.  We had just crossed the bridge back into town after taking an historic family farmland tour...

...when we saw this!

Oh, I'm sorry.  You can't read the sign.

Like the wee elegant bed, this ol' sideboard just needs a little loving.

Don't you think?

Clearly, it had been used as a workbench after its heyday.  Which is exactly why I didn't just put the seats down and pack it up in the back of my S.U.V.  I do carry old sheets, blankets and such for just this purpose, but this beauty didn't just look oily...

It smelled a bit oily, too.

Not too much a good clean up wouldn't fix, but too much for a cross-country road trip...INSIDE the vehicle.  So, I sighed and left it behind, as it was time to fetch my mama....who immediately said upon hearing about it,

"Let's go back and get it!!!"

: )

I love my mommy.

Unfortunately, it was already gone.  Do you think it's been beautifully restored...or housing more greasy tools?
I wonder.

Oh, and the elegant little bed.

Well, I think they were asking about $125 for it.  When the lady of the house told me that she actually had a matching pair and that the twin was being used at her cabin and wasn't for sale...

I talked her out of dividing the pair and gave her my number in case she ever decided to sell both of them.

How about that?

.....................................................

Have you passed up any great "junk" lately?

Happy Mother's Day!!!

Hello!

It's been a little over a month since I last posted on my blog, so I thought it was about time to check back in with y'all.

My maternal grandma with my big brothers ~ Kalaloch Beach on the Olympic Peninsula of Washington State...when I was 2 weeks old.
ps  That's my mama's sweater.  She still has it.

Thank you so much to everyone who's been praying for my brother Bryan.  He's still dangerously ill, but we are holding onto the hope that he is going to make it through this and we take comfort in knowing that...

God is in control!

Just click here to read Bryan's story.  While I've been away, I've been keeping The Little Red Shop's  Facebook fanpage posted with updates on Bryan's progress.

Thank you so much to all y'all who've been leaving sweet comments.  We really appreciate your encouragement.

***************************

In other news,

Grandma snapped this photo, way back then, whilst she was out visiting us from Nebraska.

Jeffy, daddy, Bryan, moi, & mama

1.  When I showed this photo to my mama tonight, she said, "Wow, dad looks little...but maybe that's because my hair was so big!"

{My daddy was 5'11" to my mama's 5'4"...not including said 'do}

2.  I have strategically placed the "Happy Mother's Day" bubble over the strategically placed ink pen marks my grandma used to censor my seated mama in her ultra short striped dress....my mama who just had a baby, her third...two weeks prior to this photo being taken!!!

3.  Aren't little boys in knee socks the best?

I hope y'all have a blessed Mother's Day!
