Sisters

Lil' Baptists ~ Nebraska City, Nebraska, circa 1948. Inseparable, adorable, and born just over two years apart...my Auntie Georgie and my mama, are dressed in their Sunday best, standing on the steps of their church. Thus begins the tale of The Wonder Twins...

Spring Past...

A snippet from The Little Red Shop

The white hutch was borrowed from my kitchen for this display. The Soda Fountain dishes, Cup Cake plates, Cafe Paris espresso cups and saucers, and mint, strawberry, vanilla, and chocolate ice cream bowls with names of ice cream flavors "drizzled" around each inside rim, are by Rosanna. A wonderful company based in Seattle, most of Rosanna's dishes come in pretty hat boxes. The mini hat boxes with tassels contain soy candles by Michel. Sweet, sweet packaging is very important to me!

à la carte

Happiness is...

1 Shabby Chic sheet, 2 ruffled Ralph Lauren sheets, 1 pink sheet and 1 apple green gingham sheet from the "paint rag bin," 2 Xochi red floral french provincial napkins, 2 oversized deep red cloth napkins, 1 darling floral Waverly baby crib bumper, 1 Ethan Allen end table, and 1 sweeeet white vintage bedspread with dainty pink rosebuds...oh, and then I found the matching top sheet for the apple green gingham.
Seeing the beauty of my "mountain," as the sales girl called it. I just had to stop and take some pictures of the goodies in my cart before pulling them apart and checking out....but wait, something was hiding. Hmm..yes, a darling little spice rack cupboard. With 2 doors and 2 drawers, it just might be the thing for which I've been searching to place between the stove and the chimney in my kitchen. But what color will it be???

Olivia Jane

In January of 2003, this picture was taken on a day very much like today. I awoke this morning and drew back the curtain to reveal giant clumps of snow hustling and blowing past the window. Just below, plump robins, who had been perched in my Hawthorne tree, dove down, hopped half-way across the street, and stopped to enjoy a sip or two out of a puddle. My old friend, Olivia Jane, who is now 13 and snuggled up by my side, loves to sit and look out the window. I don't know what she enjoys more, the flittering snow, or the chubby little birds. One day, I will tell you how Olivia Jane, a Minnesota barn cat, travelled many many miles to find her true home out west...

Beautiful!

"Biondina" 1879, By Lord Frederick Leighton, United Kingdom

Brilliant!

In the summer of 1992, I was blessed to be able to spend an afternoon in the Musee D'Orsay in Paris, France.  Whilst upstairs, I turned the corner and came face to face with what is now my all time favorite painting.

"Le disciples Pierre et Jean courant au sépulcre le matin de la Résurrection"
By Eugène Burnand (1850-1921)

"The disciples Peter and John running to the sepulcher the morning of the Resurrection"
